Celebrate this day by taking part in local events in your community!

This United Nations-designated day, first declared in 1992, aims to promote understanding of disability issues, raise awareness, and advocate for the inclusion of those with disabilities around the world. People with disability enrich and contribute to our communities in many ways - they should be seen, heard and celebrated.

Worldwide, one in six individuals experiences significant disability. They have a higher risk of developing various health conditions (e.g. depression, diabetes, stroke) and facing significant health and social inequities such as barriers to care, discrimination, poverty, and exclusion from education and employment.
